One of our most urgent challenges right now is the rapid escalation of human-elephant conflict across Africa. As farms and towns expand, elephants searching for food are coming into contact with people more often, destroying crops, threatening livelihoods and at times causing serious injuries. In fear and frustration, families can feel forced to retaliate, with devastating consequences for both sides.
The scale of what’s at stake is enormous. Africa once had 10-12 million elephants; today, we are down to around 415,000. After decades of fighting poaching, conflict is now one of the fastest-rising threats to the species.

This holiday season, we aim to raise USD 50,000. This critical initial funding is 20% of our larger USD 250,000 goal for 2026, which will allow us to expand and maintain lifesaving coexistence projects in Kenya, Uganda, and Gabon. Your festive generosity can jumpstart this vital work!
Every donation received will go towards installing smart, solar-powered fencing that prevents conflict before it begins, strengthening rapid-response teams that protect families and elephants, expanding conservation jobs that sustain rural communities and equipping and training local communities to live safely alongside elephants.

Kenya (Laikipia)
This year, 27% of the elephants we collared and tracked were killed, a stark indicator of escalating conflict. Strengthening the Laikipia Fence is now critical to protect both elephants and the farming communities who live alongside them
Uganda
Elephant numbers have rebounded from 550 in the 1980s to over 6,800 today but conflict now makes up 78% of all wildlife incidents. Expanding fencing and rapid-response teams is urgently needed.
Gabon
The last stronghold of endangered forest elephants. Smart mobile fences pioneered by Space for Giants are saving lives and harvests but we must scale up fast before these gains are lost.
